The Effect of Harry Potter on Children
Harry Potter phoneme starts when the first book has been published in 1997. Harry Potter books tell a story about a wizard boy whose parents have been killed by the darkest wizard Lord Voldemort while they were trying to protect his life. The theme of Harry Potter is good versus evil, just like any other fairy tales. Through years Harry Potter books became very popular around the world and it has been translated into more than 64 languages. Teaching witchcraft and setting bad examples are the main two reasons why many people consider Harry Potter as a harmful literature.
Many people think that Harry Potter is a harmful novel because it’s against their religious beliefs1. The main theme of the story is witchcraft. Witchcraft consider as a great sin in Islam. In the Qurán we can find many verses talking about the danger of magic and sorcery. Muslims are afraid that their children going to learn witchcraft by reading the books or watching the movies2. Christian has the biggest reaction on these books. The Bible clearly condemns all kinds of witchcraft, sorcery and spiritism. People should look at the books as pour imagination that helps children to expand their imagination and make them creative. Robert Fulghum an American writer said “I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge ...”. We should look at the huge difference that Harry Potter made around the world by encouraging kids to read.
