Of Mice and Men Coursework - How is Prejudice Represented Within the Story and What Role does it Play?GCSE: English Literature
Preview:
In my essay I intend to justify how prejudice plays such an important and significant role in the telling of the story and how it represents the problems of America in that period of history. To do this I am going to use characters and scenes within the novel as examples and evidence, for example, how Crooks is downtrodden and broken just because he is a black man. To expand on this point, Crooks would have been seen as a descendent from the slave culture and tradition dictates he is below everyone else and that he is always worked for practically nothing because they are slaves and should be used to it, as they are a lesser race. As his name suggests, Crooks is crippled, kicked in the back by one of the horses he tends, leaving his spine twisted.
