... On one random day Mattie found out that one of her close friends, Polly Logan had passed away from a reason that no one knew at the moment why. But as time went by, more and more people were dying from unknown causes. But the reasons of all these deaths turned out to be yellow fever. The fever eventually reached her mother. She told Mattie and her grandfather to go to a friend’s farm to try and escape the illness that is going around. But on the way there, Mattie and her grandfather were stopped by border watchers because her grandfather looked sick so they were thrown off the wagon. Mattie and her grandfather were forced to try and survive on their own. As her grandfather slept, Mattie searched for food. While on her search, she passed out. When she woke up she found herself in a mansion which was being used as a fever hospital. During her stay there she recovered. She and her grandfather returned home. Her grandfather turned out to be sicker than anyone knew and died during the summer. ...
